Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide, is a weekly injection for type 2 diabetes and has been known to encourage weight loss. Tirzepatide is a unique medication that mimics two hormones naturally found in the body: GLP-1 and GIP.

How does it work?

Tirzepatide slows down gastrointestinal motility, causing patients to feel full, and acts on the appetite centers in the brain to decrease hunger. In other words, people who use this type of medication are able to feel full with smaller portions and they are less hungry, which induces weight loss. This medication can also improve blood sugar levels.

What are the side effects?

In some cases, people reported nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fast heart rate, heartburn or constipation. However, gastrointestinal symptoms often times improve as patients get used to higher doses. We have medicine on hand to treat the side effects, so don’t despair or give up if you experience some discomfort in the first few weeks of treatment.

Who is eligible?

If you are ready to lose weight and you meet these criteria, then you may be a good candidate to begin taking Tirzepatide .
1. BMI above 25
2. No personal or family history of thyroid cancer
3. Not currently taking other GLP-1 agonists, diabetic medications, or thyroid medications
4. Not Type 1 diabetic
5. No history of suicidal or homicidal ideations

Labs will be repeated every three months while you are taking the medication, and we will monitor your weight throughout. We will safely get you to your goal BMI, with 20 being the lowest before the medication is stopped.

Tirzepatide must be administered on the same day each week, at any time during the day, with or without meals. It is a small injection under the skin of the abdomen. The doses increase each month. It is strongly recommended that you do not skip the weekly injection. If you do, come back as soon as possible. This medicine does not work unless you are consistent with it. Please let us know if you will be traveling so, we can make arrangements with you to continue treatment. We need to see at minimum, a 5% decrease in total body weight over a three-month period for you to continue taking the drug.
